लाख का श्रुंगार

Before it becomes a bangle, it is a block of lac. Before the lac, it is a tradition. And before the tradition, there is a pair of hands that learned it as a child, shaped it through years, and mastered it in silence.

Jaipur’s Living Tradition

The art of lakh jewellery has its roots in Rajasthan, where it has flourished for centuries as one of India’s most beloved folk crafts. Jaipur, in particular, has long been home to master lac artisans whose skill has been refined across generations. The craft is not merely a livelihood here — it is identity. It is culture. It is heritage.

Lac, derived from a natural resin secreted by lac insects, has been used in Indian jewellery for thousands of years. Warm to the touch, vibrant in colour, and endlessly versatile in form, it remains one of the most intimate and authentic materials in Indian adornment.

The Handmade Process

Every Lakhar bangle begins as raw lac, carefully selected for quality and consistency. The lac is gently heated over an open flame until it softens — a process that demands precision and intuition in equal measure. The artisan then shapes it by hand, working quickly and deftly before it cools.

Once the base form is set, the bangle is layered with colour — rich pigments pressed directly into the warm surface. Embellishments such as mirror work, stone settings, and intricate patterns are added one by one, each element placed with intention. There are no machines involved at any stage of this process. Only hands, fire, and decades of knowledge.

Attention to Detail

At Lakhar, we believe that the details are not secondary — they are everything. Each bangle is inspected carefully before it leaves our studio. The symmetry of the form, the depth of the colour, the precision of the embellishments — every element is considered. What reaches you is not simply a product. It is the result of hours of quiet, focused work.

The Artisans

The artisans behind Lakhar are the true custodians of this craft. Many have spent their entire lives working with lac — learning first by watching, then by doing, until their hands carry the memory of the material. We work closely with them, not as vendors but as collaborators, ensuring that their skill is respected, their work is valued, and their craft continues to be seen by the world.

Preserving Indian Heritage

In an age of mass production, choosing handmade is a quiet act of resistance — and a deeply meaningful one. Every Lakhar bangle you wear helps sustain a tradition that might otherwise fade. It keeps a craft alive. It keeps an artisan’s skill relevant. And it keeps alive the belief that some things are worth making slowly.

We are grateful to be part of that story. And we are grateful that you are too.

हर कंगन अपने आप में एक कहानी समेटे हुए है। — Every bangle holds a story within it.
